What is amazon prime day? On July 15, 2015, Prime Day was officially launched for customers as a way to honour Prime subscribers in honour of Amazon's 20th anniversary. For the benefit of the customer, we keep innovating, and Prime Day is getting bigger every year. The duration of Prime Day in 2019 will be the longest ever, lasting 48 hours on July 15 and 16. On the eve of Amazon's 20th birthday, the company unveiled Prime Day, a worldwide shopping event. Our only aim? Offer more discounts than Black Friday only to Prime subscribers.

Our first Prime Day, which lasted for 24 hours on July 15, 2015, included the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria.

Customers actually purchased more goods than they did on Black Friday 2014, which was, at the time, our biggest Black Friday ever.

- They placed 398 orders per second, totalling 34.4 million items across Prime-eligible nations.

Hundreds of thousands of Amazon devices were ordered by customers, making it the biggest device sales day ever recorded globally.

- 24,000 7-in-1 programmable pressure cookers from Instant Pot were sold.

- Amazon sellers who use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) had the best day ever thanks to record-breaking unit sales that increased by almost 300% globally.

 Year 2016 Prime Day highlights

- On Prime Day 2015, Prime members saved more than twice as much.

- Consumers bought more than two million toys and more than one million pairs of shoes.

- It was the biggest Prime Day ever for all Amazon device categories, including Fire TV, Fire tablets, Kindle e-readers, and Alexa-enabled devices, making it the biggest day ever for Amazon devices globally.

- 215,000 multipurpose Instant Pot 7-in-1 pressure cookers were sold.

- During Prime Day, Prime members used their voices to make an average of one Alexa-exclusive purchase every second.

Year Because only Amazon could fit 30 hours into a day, 2017 Prime Day began on July 11 and lasted for 30 hours.

2017 Prime Day highlights

The Echo Dot was the most popular item purchased by Prime members.

- On Prime Day 2017, tens of millions more Prime members made purchases than the previous year, an increase of more than 50%.

- Added Mexico and China to the expanding list of nations taking advantage of Prime Day.

- Customers from all over the world purchased more than 3.5 million toys.

- On Prime Day, tens of millions of customers used the Amazon app, and customer orders there more than doubled from the previous year.
