Licensing Exams

Students who have completed their MBBS in Russia are required to successfully pass a series of licensing exams in order to obtain a medical license in India. There are two main exams that you should know: the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) and the National Exit Test (NEXT). These exams assess the knowledge and skills gained throughout the MBBS program and establish eligibility to practice medicine in India.

Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE)

The FMGE is held by the National Board Of Examinations (NBE) and is a compulsory examination for Indian students who complete their medical education from foreign institutions. This assessment evaluates the comprehension of fundamental medical concepts and clinical knowledge required for secure medical practice in India. If a student successfully passes FMGE then it is required to register with the Medical Council Of India (MCI) or the respective State Medical Council (SMC).

The National Exit Test (NEXT)

The NEXT, which is set to replace the FMGE, is an upcoming licensing exam for medical graduates in India.  The goal is to evaluate the proficiency of medical graduates in India in terms of their knowledge, clinical skills, and aptitude. The format and implementation of the NEXT are currently being developed, with the goal of creating a unified licensing system for medical professionals.
