(I am 5′6″, 140 lbs and have won many long-driving contests against golfers that are more than six inches taller, 40–50 lbs heavier, and 10–15 years younger than me. I never work out.)

Edit 1: I am assuming that the OP is a recreational or at most a semi-serious golfer. I am aware that golfers who have ambitions of playing on the pro tour do a lot of exercises, but they do so under expert supervision from workout gurus that specialize in golf. What I have seen is that golfers going to gym and doing lots of weightlifting (without proper guidance) are more likely to hurt their golf game and worse, their bodies.
