4500 switches can offer many flexible options to build right-size campus networks. There are 3,5,7 and 10 slot chassis options available for this series. The 7 and 10 slots chassis can be configured with redundant supervisors for high availability. Catalyst 4500 supervisor support Cisco’s IOS XE which is a modular open application platform.

Chassis and Line Card Support
The Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor Engine V can be deployed in single-chassis, non-redundant mode in the Cisco Catalyst 4503/4503-E and Cisco Catalyst 4506/4506-E chassis, or in redundant mode as an option in the Cisco Catalyst 4507R (slots 1 and 2)/4507R-E/4507R+E (slots 3 and4) and Cisco Catalyst 4510R (slots 1 and 2)/4510R-E/4510R+E (slots 5 and 6) chassis. Table 1 shows the performance of the Supervisor Engine V for each chassis.
Cisco Catalyst 4500 license
Cisco Catalyst 4500 switches support traditional licensing using PAKs to activate specific instances on the device. Also, right-to-use (RTU) licensing allows you to order and activate a specific license type and level.
Right-to-use image licenses support a set of features based on a specific image-based license such as: LAN Base activated Layer 2 features, IP Base which supports Layer 2 and Layer 3 features and IP Services which provides Layer 2, Layer 3, and IPv6 features which can be applied only to switches and not controllers.
