When I was installing FNC for the first time, I was shocked at how many options there were. You can choose your difficulty level, the number of rounds in the game, and which side you're on (boxer or cornerman). After making all your choices you're ready to begin training in one of two modes: general training or title defense. The general training mode lets you work on skills like jabbing and blocking while title defense mode has you fighting an increasing number of opponents until you lose. After you've won enough fights, you can challenge the champion. After all of this is finished, you're ready to fight the champion, which will either be a boxer or cornerman. The game ends when your chosen boxer defeats the champ or when your chosen cornerman wins by knockout.The game features more than 35 boxing legends which includes heavyweights like Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali (both considered fighters at once) as well as lightweights like Archie Moore and Roberto Duran. The game has many different kinds of fighters including boxers like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and MMA fighters like Randy Couture and Kimbo Slice.The controls are very easy to master and use a simple set of buttons. It makes the game more enjoyable because you can focus on what's happening in the ring rather than trying to figure out how to punch or defend yourself because you have been knocked down from a punch. The boxers can throw jabs, uppercuts, hooks, body blows, and power punches as well as block any incoming attack from the other fighter using footwork and by throwing back counters that stunned your opponent for a few seconds after blocking or countering an attack. The cornermen, who are optional to use, can throw power shots or other abilities at their fighter's opponent. If you're a boxer you can manage how many rounds the fight will last as well as who will be your trainer/manager and cornerman. In "Fight Night Champion", players devise a strategy by setting up the offense and defense of their character before each round begins. The player can choose from three different styles of offensive fighting: counterpunching, out-boxing and pressure fighting. Each situation calls for a different kind of strategy and only by studying your opponent and using your skill set to take advantage of his weaknesses can you win the fight. There are several features of this game that make it stand out from others. You can earn your belt by fighting your way up the ranks, you can even fight more than one fighter at once, and more than one boxer can challenge the champion at once. It also moves very fast compared to other fighting games. The characters look very realistic and the amount of detail that the designers put into these characters is incredible. You notice how they sweat after throwing a punch or even how they breathe more heavily after throwing some powerful attacks.

The game was met with positive reception upon release; GameRankings gave it a score of 81% based on 12 reviews, while Metacritic gave it 82 out of 100 based on 17 reviews.
