I have been making electric bikes for nearly ten years. One question I am often asked about is the recommendation of specific components.

I have been making electric bikes for nearly ten years. One question I am often asked about is the recommendation of specific components.

There are thousands of options for every electric bikes parts you can think of, so it's hard for me to make a detailed list. On the contrary, what I should do is try to list the parts of the electric bike that I use most often below, and I usually recommend them to others. I have written complete comments on some parts, and I intend to write more on some parts.

Electric bike motor:

For a fairly standard but powerful 48V 1000W electric bike, I like to use a 9c - clone style gearless motor from Congismotor. It also includes controllers, ebrakes, etc. - in addition to batteries, basically everything you need.

Electric bike battery:

Batteries are a bit difficult because there are 1.5 million options. Usually I make batteries for electric bikes myself, but when I buy batteries, some of the sources I use are:

The EM3EV has a wide range of battery options, they are built in plastic housings, triangular or standard rectangular bricks. These packages are of good quality.

In fact, there are a lot of electric vehicle batteries on SpeedConnect, but I have only tried a small part of them. The advantage of Express is that they will keep your payment until you confirm that the goods work normally, and then release the payment to the supplier. So if there is a problem with your product and you file a claim, they will return the money to you. I have used this method several times, and I must say that it actually encouraged my confidence. This makes me feel better about the risk of buying more expensive products, because I know that buyer protection is effective.

This is one of the reasons why I prefer AliExpress to eBay, because your money is kept by AliExpress and will not be handed over to the seller unless you agree.

Lithium ion 18650 battery:

As I mentioned earlier, I make batteries by myself most of the time, which means I have bought a lot of batteries, most of which are lithium ion 18650 batteries. Here are some of my main cell sources:

Samsung 26F batteries (2.6AH, 5.2A max) - These batteries are suitable for low power applications that do not require more than 2C discharge. I used these batteries to make many battery packs of about 48V 15 AH. Ideal for low to medium power applications. Most of my 26F cells are here. The price of that supplier is a little high, but I have cooperated with them many times and know that they have good quality and good service/communication. Recently, I started to buy more batteries here because the price is better.

Electronic speed controller of electric bike:

There are many different controllers, each of which has its own specific purpose. I have made a lot of medium power electric bikes, so I don't need too fancy things. As for the most powerful electric bike I manufacture, I will choose Lyen controller or EM3EV controller, whose quality and price are comparable. Lyen's ship is from the United States, while EM3EV's ship is from China, so this may affect your decision, depending on which country you live closer.

For most medium power electric bikes, although I build them, I do not need controllers that are as good as Lyen and EM3EV controllers. I can buy it for one third of the price. I am very satisfied with this controller on some 72V electric bikes.
